Help Sales, customers & money Add what you paid for an item

Add what you paid for an item

What an item cost you is the one number Vinted cannot know. Without it you get revenue; with it you get margin, reports and honest offer suggestions.

Open a sale or an inventory row and press Set cost. Type what the item cost you. That is the whole job.

It is stored on your computer and never sent to Vinted, which has no field for it and no business knowing it.

Why it matters more than it looks

Vinted can tell you an item sold for 24 euros. It cannot tell you whether that was a good day. A jacket you paid 2 for and a jacket you paid 20 for look identical in every figure Vinted shows you, and they are not the same sale.

Once the cost is in, four things stop being guesses: your real margin after fees and postage, the yearly profit and loss report, the floor under a counter-offer, and whether a bundle discount quietly puts one item under water.

Three places to add it

  1. On a single sale

Open Sales, click the sale, and press Set cost in the panel that opens. Use Edit cost to change one you got wrong.

  2. On several items at once

In Inventory, tick the rows and press Set cost. Useful for a lot you bought as one job: twelve shirts for thirty euros is 2.50 each, and typing it twelve times is how people stop bothering.

  3. As a stock purchase

If you buy to resell, record the purchase itself rather than costing each item afterwards. The cost basis then exists before you need it, which is the difference between a tax report and an afternoon of receipts.

A missing cost is shown as missing

It is never counted as zero. An item with no cost recorded shows as having no cost, and it is left out of the margin figures rather than dragged into them as free stock.

This matters most on bundles: if one item in a three-item bundle has no cost, Flogit says the bundle margin is unknown instead of inventing a flattering number.

Worth knowing

You do not have to go back and cost every sale you ever made. Add costs going forward and to the last few weeks, and the figures become useful almost immediately. The yearly report is the only thing that wants the whole year.
