The resale pill: what it is telling you

Two numbers for the question you have while standing in front of something: is this worth buying?

Good sell price is roughly what you could ask. Good buy price is what you should pay to keep a worthwhile margin.

It is a sourcing tool, not a pricing tool. For pricing something you already own, use the market check.

The two numbers

NumberWhat it is
Market valueWhat comparable pieces are going for.
Good buy pricePay below this and the flip is worth the effort after fees and postage.

The gap between them is not profit. It has to absorb Vinted's fee, postage if you cover it, the packaging, and the time the item sits unsold.

The online cross-check

Same item online looks at active asking prices on other marketplaces for the same design. It is a sanity check, not a second opinion of equal weight: a different marketplace has different buyers and different fees.

Where it earns its keep is spotting the item that is cheap on Vinted and not cheap anywhere else, which usually means Vinted's sellers have not realised what they have.

When it cannot answer

Try an item with a more common title/brand.. Unusual titles and obscure brands produce nothing to compare against, which is the same honest refusal the market check makes.

Rewriting the search into words a buyer would use often fixes it. See why the search is stricter than Vinted's.

It does not know what you can sell

A good buy price assumes the item sells. Something with a healthy margin and no demand is still money sitting in a box. The sample size tells you whether anybody is actually trading in it.

Did this answer it?

If not, say so on the board and the article gets fixed.
